Residential aged care providers are evolving in the way they approach infection prevention and control activities, in particular following the introduction of mandated AMS programs under the new Aged Care Standards, in practice since 1 July 2019.

This presentation will discuss scope of antimicrobial resistance risks in the current climate of residential aged care, highlighting the drivers for change, who and what influences AMS activities in residential aged care, and the main challenges and practical applications of AMS in this sector.

This presentation aims to be a spring-board discussion piece on the scope of AMS in residential aged care services, with the hope it will begin to open up opportunity for dialogue across the industry and its stakeholders about what successful AMS can look like.
