Pseudomonas and the Water Quality Management Plan – it’s not just about Legionella.

Many Water Quality Risk Management Plans (WQRMPs) only focus on the risks from Legionella species. However, these are not the only microorganisms that can cause debilitating or fatal infections in patients and residents in the hospital and residential aged care environments.

This presentation will aim to introduce other organisms of importance that are often overlooked in WQRMPs, with special emphasis on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitals. Some risks and control strategies for these organisms will be highlighted.

Sarah has worked as a microbiologist for many years in the UK and Australia, before moving to a consultancy role specialising in water quality and the indoor environment, with a focus on the hospital environment.
