AS/NZS4815:2006 is still a current Australian Standard for reprocessing of reusable medical devices in office-based practices. However, hospital based and publicly funded community health services are expected to meet requirements in AS/NZS4187:2014 for accreditation purposes.

As AS/NZS4815 is now over 10 years old, the time has come to either revise this Standard or consider consolidation of both AS/NZS4187:2014 and AS/NZS4815:2006 into one nation-wide Standard. The way forward was recently the topic of a Standards Australia Scoping Workshop where stakeholders were asked to voice their opinions on the future of these Standards.

This presentation will examine the key principles for safe and effective reprocessing of reusable medical devices contained within AS/NZS4187 and look at how these principles can be applied in an office-based practice setting.
