Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) continue to increase in number and prevalence in healthcare. Due to their long carriage state, MDROs can progressively spread across the continuum of healthcare and become endemic across an entire region. Regional control measures can be synergistic to reduce MDROs when facilities adopt concerted efforts to reduce their spread.

  • Describe the extent of MDROs in various healthcare settings in a region
  • Discuss the impact that patient sharing across facilities can have on MDRO spread
  • Identify effective control measures to address endemic and epidemic spread
