The Infection Control Professional (ICP) is required to provide advice in relation to building and refurbishment initiatives within the healthcare setting. The level and complexity of knowledge required to provide sound advice is based on the healthcare context, the specific initiative and the patient populations involved. The challenges include the need to stratify and mitigate infection risks associated with the building project itself, as well as the infection risks associated with poor design in the finished product.

This presentation aims to provide an overview of some of the issues the ICP needs to consider, identify some risk mitigation strategies and also some of the tools and references available to support decision-making.
