A/Prof Justin Denholm 1

Victorian Tuberculosis Program

Tuberculosis incidence varies significantly across the Asia-Pacific Region, with Papua New Guinea reporting amongst the highest rates and burden of disease in the Pacific. While total disease burden is a significant issue for Papua New Guinea, the incidence of multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) in particular has attracted considerable international attention in recent years. This talk will review the epidemic of TB in PNG, with a particular focus on drug resistant disease, and consider regional public health, clinical and ethical challenges arising from this setting.
