SUNDAY 12 November 2023

Infection Prevention and Control During Construction and Renovation Workshop
The construction and renovation of new and existing buildings occurs across many different settings in healthcare. The role of infection control is to minimise/prevent healthcare-acquired infections in patients due to exposure to micro-organisms released into the environment during construction and renovation activities. Controlling the dispersal of air and/or water-borne agents concealed within building components is critical to protect not only our most vulnerable patients but also our staff and visitors.

This workshop provides an informative educational day to enable delegates to directly apply learnings in their workplace. The day has a strong theme around risk assessment and risk mitigation strategies and will cover other important infection prevention and control issues that the ICP needs to be aware of. Participants will be able to participate in a forum with experts to network and discuss issues and learn about resources and available professional support.

This day is targeted at anyone who is currently considering the construction of a new building or renovation of an existing building/s in any healthcare facility from the community to the acute care setting, including office-based practice settings, such as dentistry, general practice, etc.

Room E2
Aged Care Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Workshop
The aim of the Aged Care Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Workshop is to look at aged care IPC, 12 months on – a reflection of what has occurred in the year; what has been targeted, provided and implemented.

We hear back from our last year’s governing and professional body presenters as they discuss where we are now – an IPC perspective beyond COVID 19, roll out of Government and College research and resource initiatives.

We also take a close look at what is happening at ground level. We will listen to the realities from current newly qualified and experienced IPC Leads, as well as an overarching organisation IPC perspective in developing and sustaining an IPC Program in both residential and home aged care.

Aged Care Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) is often presented with implementation challenges. Leads in the development of aged care AMS pathways, surveillance and industry specific guidelines will talk us through navigating the process and challenges.
The workshop is targeted at those involved, responsible for or interested in aged care IPC – IPC Leads, IPC Consultants, clinical governance, risk and quality managers, educators, researchers, residential and home aged care providers, and quality assessors.

We look forward to some robust collaborative discussions post our speakers on our progress and considerations for the future.

The Hygiene Co Tours
Based just 10 minutes from the CBD, The Hygiene Co. has established its manufacturing operations based on Industry 4.0 principles. To bring manufacturing back to Australia was a significant investment from co-founders Phil Scardigno and Corey White, but with a game-changing product that designs out the plastic problem, theirs is a story not to miss.

This tour will take you through their warehousing operations and into the medical-grade production area to see firsthand the process of taking large fabric roles and turning them into wet wipe soft-packs with vast amounts of this process undertaken through robotics and AI. In addition, the NATA-approved laboratory adds an extra insight into how they’ve selected the native and natural scents for their plastic free range.

All tours will include:

  • Transport to & from the factory, leaving from the Adelaide Convention Centre
  • Introduction on plastic-free wipes and going green
  • Tour of the manufacturing process
  • Tour of the independent NATA lab
  • Q&A with some of the team over coffee and a light snack

Three tours will be run at the following times and will take about 2 hours:
